Public Forum Announcement

To the Shreveport | Caddo Neighborhood Associations:

In May, the Shreveport | Caddo Metropolitan Planning Commission presented the draft Unified Development Code (UDC) at several open houses.  The purpose of those meetings was to receive questions and comments from the citizens of our community. In August, the MPC plans to continue the public outreach to specifically address questions and concerns from the neighborhood associations that relate to the UDC.

The purpose of this letter is to invite you to attend a public forum on Thursday, August 13th at RiverView Hall, between 6-8 PM or on Tuesday, August 18th at the Huntington High School Gymnasium between 6-8 PM.

The purpose of these forums will be to gather information from the Shreveport’s many neighborhood associations who want to strengthen the City, build a sense of community, and address any problems or issues they feel may arise from the UDC.  Some of the questions that will be addressed are:

  • What is the Unified Development Code?
  • Will it protect or improve the value of my home?
  • What type of development will be permitted within my neighborhood?
  • What will the new zoning map look like?

Everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate.

Tech Review Available

The Shreveport/Caddo UDC Technical Review & Approaches Report is now available to download in the Presentations & Reports section. This report focuses on regulatory issues and potential revisions identified during the technical review. This is not intended to identify every needed change, as some will be minor changes that clean up the regulations and create a user-friendly document, while others are more detailed revisions that will need to be worked out during the drafting process. This report highlights key issues and revisions that constitute substantive changes to current regulations, and offers conceptual approaches to resolving them. Specific regulations will continue to evolve as the UDC is drafted.

This report serves as the preliminary drafting direction for Shreveport-Caddo’s new Unified Development Code. The intent is to obtain general consensus on the direction of the proposed revisions. This report is intended to be general in nature, as the details of the specific regulations will be determined in subsequent drafts of the UDC.

There will be a public meeting held toward the end of May, to present the findings of the report and provide an opportunity for you to contribute feedback.  Please check back soon for the date, time, and location of this meeting.
